Beatrice Agy Gives Tips on Nuturing Kinky Hair

Beatrice Agy is a Singer, writer, and Natural hair enthusiast. In 2011, Beatrice opened up an Instagram account posting photos and natural hair blogs. A lot of girls would then ask her tips on how she keeps her looking healthy, from this she created her new E-book Kinkin It! Read more below!

Yaaa Eh: Author Beatrice Agy of Kinkin It is here with us today. How are you doing?

Beatrice: I’m doing well. I’m excited to speak with you today!

Yaaa Eh: Where do you hail from?

Beatrice: I was born, raised and currently live in Toronto.

Yaaa Eh: And where does your parents Hail from?

Beatrice: My mother is Russian and my father is Ghanaian.

Yaaa Eh: How long have you been on this natural hair journey and what prompted you to getting to know more about your hair?

Beatrice: Well, I’ve always been natural but I used to straighten my hair so often that most of my hair was permanently straight! My hair began to shed and break like crazy and I was terrified! I knew I had to make a change and figure out how to manage my hair in its completely natural state. That’s when I went on YouTube and began my search for natural hair tips. I cut off pretty much all my hair (did a big chop) in 2011 and the rest is history! About two years ago, I opened an instagram account, threw up some random pics, and natural hair blogs started re-posting my pics. A lot of girls would then ask me to share my hair care tips. I then began the Bright N’ Boldly YouTube channel and started sharing how I take care of my hair. However, I figured I’d write a guide or ebook that would go into detail about how others could achieve healthy hair and learn how to take care of their own unique hair. I’m a writer so Kinkin’ It came organically.

Yaaa Eh: Kinkin’ It is your new E-book you just released. Why did you choose the name Kinkin’ it?

Beatrice: Well, I knew I wanted to assist my girls with kinky hair in better understand their unique hair and learn how to take care of it. That was my focus. I write songs too so I know titles are effective when they’re short, original and fresh. Kinkin’ It just kinda came to mind when brainstorming and it just felt so right. Kink, in the dictionary, is defined as a twist or curl. It is also defined as a flaw or imperfection. For years curly girls were told through advertising that we were pretty much not considered beautiful unless we ultered or straightened our hair. I define Kinkin’ It as the process of understanding, accepting, embracing, and/or wearing one’s hair in all its natural glory. When you’re “kinkin’ it” you’re rocking your kinks, looking dope, and accepting your uniqueness. There’s so much value in being unique!

Yaaa Eh: This book is filled with many tips for people with unique hair. What would you say is one of the most important tips in the book?

Beatrice: An important tip is understanding that every head of hair is different. Even on one head there are so many different hair types, hair textures, etc. Even though someone’s hair may look like yours, what works for them might not work for you. There’s so many people out there sharing their hair regimen and things that work for them. But it’s so important to get to know and understand your OWN unique hair. Another thing I always stress is that accepting your natural hair is key!

Yaaa Eh: If someone is to go natural with their hair, does that mean they aren’t to use any products in their hair?

Beatrice: “Being (or going) natural” commonly means wearing your hair in its natural state, completely unaltered from things such as relaxers and perms. There are so many products on the market today to keep natural hair moisturized and healthy. So yes! Natural girls do use products in their hair.

Yaaa Eh: What are some of your favourite products to use?

Beatrice: Oh I have so many favourites! I’ve gotta have a good leave-in conditioner and deep conditioner. My current favourite leave-in conditioner is the Kinky Curly Knot Today. My current favourite deep conditioner is the Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Deep Conditioner.

Yaaa Eh: Can this book be used as a guideline for any type of Kinky hair?

Beatrice: Definitely! Kinkin’ It is focused on assisting naturals with kinkier hair (hair type 3 & 4) however girls with looser textures (hair type 2) can still benefit from the information provided.

Yaaa Eh: Where can the people go to purchase this book?

Beatrice: The ebook is available at http://kinkinit.com.

Yaaa Eh: What else Can we expect from Beatrice this year?

Beatrice: I just create! I let my creativity lead the way. I’m currently writing my next book and a whole bunch of music. It will all be released when it’s all meant to. Hopefully this year! I’m also always making videos for the Bright N’ Boldly channel so you can always find something new from me there!

Yaaa Eh: Thanks you so much for taking the time out to talk with us over here at Yaaa Eh! Entertainment!

Beatrice: Oh thank you for having me! I had fun doing this!
